How to get to the Museum:

– Those coming from Western Crete or from Heraklion via the national road (BOAK) take the southern exit of the junction to Industrial Area of Heraklion and turn right onto the new road to Vianno (Kazantzidi Ave.). Then, at the junction to Skalani, where the traffic lights are located, turn left towards the village of Skalani and follow the signs for the Museum which leads you after 5 km to the village of Myrtia.

 

– Those of you coming through the city of Heraklion follow the road to Knossos. About 2 km after Knossos, turn left towards Skalani and follow the signs for the Museum, which leads you after 5 km to the village of Myrtia.

 

– For those starting from the port of Heraklion, drive on Nearchos Avenue in an easterly direction. Turn right at the traffic lights towards Kazantzidi Avenue. You continue straight for about 9 km and at the junction to Skalani turn left towards the village of Skalani and follow the signs for the Museum which leads you after 5 km to the village of Myrtia.

 

– Those coming from Eastern Crete or from the airport via the national road (BOAK) take the northern exit of the junction to Industrial Area of Heraklion and turn right onto the new road to Vianno (Kazantzidi Ave.). Then, at the junction to Skalani, where the traffic lights are located, turn left towards the village of Skalani and follow the signs for the Museum which leads you after 5 km to the village of Myrtia.

 

– Those coming from the airport through the city, drive on Ikarou Avenue, leaving the airport behind. Continue straight for about 2 km and turn left at the traffic lights towards Kazantzidi Avenue. You continue straight for about 9 km and at the junction to Skalani turn left towards the village of Skalani and follow the signs for the Museum which leads you after 5 km to the village of Myrtia.

The KTEL line that serves to reach the museum is that of Heraklion – Kastelli with the bus departing from the central KTEL station at the port of Heraklion.
Every Monday to Friday with the route of 13.00 from Heraklion or 15.00 from Kastelli you can come directly to the village of Myrtia.
With the rest of the routes of the same line, the nearest stop is that of the village of “Kellia”, 2.5 km south of Myrtia.

Contact a taxi company in the city of Heraklion and plan your journey to the Museum. The journey from the center of Heraklion takes about 30 minutes. The cost ranges from €30 – €40 per route.

Organise your visit

The Permanent Exhibition is open to teachers and students of Primary and Secondary Education, who wish to visit the MNK, without participating in an organized educational program.

In the context of an educational visit, the teacher coordinates and guides the school group, using the educational material he has designed based on the chosen topic.

 

Useful information:

Educational visits take place every day, except weekends, from 9.00 to 15.00.
The financial participation of each student is €1 for a simple visit and €2 for a guided tour.
The tour lasts 30 minutes.
The maximum number of participants in each tour cannot exceed 25 people (students & teachers).
Each school group (class) should be accompanied by at least two (2) teachers throughout the educational visit.
Teachers can edit the educational material they have designed or implement activities during their visit, after the relevant information from the Museum staff.
