Duration:

Consistent with its social role, Nikos Kazantzakis Museum (MNK) provides a free of charge guided tour to visually impaired people and their escorts through the tactile route of the Museum’s Permanent Exhibition.

For a better organization of your visit, we recommend that you inform the Museum one to two days before your visit at tel. 2810 741689 or at info@kazantzaki.gr.

Within the context of the completion of the project “Kazantzakis for all: improvement of accessibility to the author’s work and to the Museum with the same name”, which was funded by the Ministry of Culture, Nikos Kazantzakis Museum launched the new interventions to its Permanent Exhibition on May 21, 2022. Those interventions include a combination of a tactile route with an audio guide, large print and Braille writing system texts, as well as an inclusive video. During the inauguration, a free guided tour for members of Crete’s Regional Union of the Blind took place.

During the tour visually impaired visitors and their escorts are guided by the Museum’s specialized staff; they get the opportunity to touch copies of the author’s personal items, they can read books and letters in large print and Braille, and they can follow the inclusive video excerpt from the theatrical performance “Kapodistrias”, a play by Nikos Kazantzakis, which was staged at the National Theater in 1976.

Using the audio guide of the tactile route and watching the 18-minute long documentary shown in the Museum’s screening room, visitors have the opportunity to get to know aspects of Nikos Kazantzakis, his life and his work.
