Within the context of the completion of the project “Kazantzakis for all: improvement of accessibility to the author’s work and to the Museum with the same name”, which was funded by the Ministry of Culture, Nikos Kazantzakis Museum (MNK) launched the new interventions to its Permanent Exhibition to make it accessible to visually impaired persons. During the inauguration, a free guided tour for members of Crete’s Regional Union of the Blind took place.
Twelve visually impaired persons and their escorts participated in the tour, guided by the Museum’s specialized staff. They used the audio guide of the tactile route to get to know aspects of Nikos Kazantzakis’ life, they touched copies of the author’s personal items, they read books and letters in large print and Braille writing system, and they watched the inclusive video excerpt from the theatrical performance “Kapodistrias”, a play by Nikos Kazantzakis, which was staged at the National Theater in 1976. Finally they watched the 18-minute long documentary about Nikos Kazantzakis which is shown to the Museum’s visitors in the screening room.
